Synopsis

After the eruption of the volcano which looms over it, the Chilean city of Chaitén, in the province of Palena, is reduced to a ghost town. Cristóbal wanders through the rubble and abandoned houses; he has returned to his hometown for a photographic project which will help him find his roots once again. After a few days of solitude, Cristóbal encounters two women, the tobacconist Ana and her elderly mother María, and slowly enters their lives, finding the affection and the family he never had.

Benjamín Brunet (Chile, 1988) is a director, screenwriter, film editor and sound mixer. In 2009, he directed his first fiction short, Ritmo de la creación, a reflection on the relationship between images and music. It was followed in 2017 by the fiction project
La madre, el hijo y la abuela and the short documentary Agua negra, which was shot in Chilean Patagonia and deals with the region’s problem of environmental pollution. He created and runs the production company La Casa Tortuga.
