Synopsis

With the splendid mountain landscapes of the Val di Fumo, in Alto Chiese, as a backdrop, the excavations to build a hydroelectric plant give the director an opportunity to describe the harsh life of the minors, made of daily dangers and gestures of hope, such as putting fresh flowers in front of the image of their patron saint.

Director statement

“I met Goffredo Parise in Milan […]. Together, we went to Rome several times and once, at the Strega Prize, where I met Mario Soldati, among others, there was Pasolini, as well. We were young, almost the same age, and when I’d return to Rome we’d often meet up at Rosati in Piazza del Popolo. Pier Paolo had written Ragazzi di vita and was starting to work in film, so I showed him Manon finestra 2, and he liked it a lot. So I asked him to write the script. At the time, documentaries always had to have a verbal commentary, otherwise the audiences wouldn’t go see them.”
