Cupa e angosciosa trasposizione del romanzo di George Orwell, che già nel 1949 aveva previsto tutto, dall’invadenza del privato da parte di un Grande Fratello dominante alla censura dei sentimenti. Strepitoso John Hurt, ma indimenticabile Richard Burton nella sua ultima interpretazione. Grande confezione, con le musiche degli Eurythmics e la fotografia dai colori desaturati di Roger Deakins. Bellissimo e ancora oggi sottovalutato.
