THE IMPOSSIBLE - TORN PAGES
A trip from Calais to Paris is divided into five episodes about political
unrest, based on works by Rimbaud, Lautréamont, Dostoevsky,
Benjamin and Blanqui. Images of migrants leaving from the coast of
France to England, of students and temporary workers during Paris
protests in March and May 2009 and footage of pride paredes of the
Sixties from the movies of Lionel Soukaz.
“In September 2009 I organized a special projection of Je me suis
armé contre la justice (Burn! Burn! Burn!), the third part of
Impossible - Pages arrachées, to support the students who were
arrested during the March 19, 2009 protest march. The head of
hospitality told me that during the afternoon a couple of police
detectives had come by to ask a few questions about the ‘social protest
movement’ which was going to take place that evening. This is a
perfect illustration of the fascist atmosphere in France.”

Sylvain George
Sylvain George (France), after completing his studies in philosophy, dedicated himself to making documentaries, in particular about migration. In 2005, he debuted with the first two parts of the series Contrefeux, which were combined into a documentary entitled Contrefeux 1 et 2: Comment briser les consciences? Frapper!, which were followed by Contrefeux 3: Europe année 06 (Fragments Ceuta) and Contrefeux 4: Un homme ideal (Fragments K). Between 2005 and 2008 he made the shorts No Border (Aspettavo che scendesse la sera) and N’entre pas sans violence dans la nuit. In 2009 and 2010 he partecipated at the Torino Film Festival with the documentaries L’impossible - Pages arrachées and Qu’ils reposent en révolte (des figures de guerre).
