Arraial do Cabo is the name a small Brazilian city situated on the coastal area of Rio de Janeiro. The inhabitants of the city are mainly fishermen and therefore live almost exclusively from their work on the sea. When two factories were built in the town - one of which was for the processing of whale oil - a strong sense of confrontation grew between the local fisherman and the factory workers who had come in from the Northeast. The fishermen are used to living in direct contact with nature, and so they cannot stand the factory noises or the heavy trucks that drive down the narrow roads of the town. When it is proposed that they give up fishing and work in the factory instead, they leave the region and look for another tract of land where they could dedicate themselves to fishing again.
