A moist fresco of the act and the viewing of masturbation. Master where are you. Not shouted research, but instead a telluric implosion, the observation of a disappearance, a useless SOS hurled among paper notebooks, protective nature, cars whose motors are turned off, and forgotten nests. Orphaned of now-distant masters, engraved bodies discover momentary burrows for solitary coitus like fleshly animals, dark havens in which to die – and hold their breath until the next shipwreck.

Carlo Michele Schirinzi
Carlo Michele Schirinzi (Capo di Leuca, Lecce, Italy, 1974) is a video maker and artist. In 2004, his short All’erta! won an award at the Pesaro Film Festival, which then dedicated the 2005 retrospective to him. Over the years, the Torino Film Festival has presented much of his work: Astrolìte (2002), Il nido (Special Mention in 2003), Oligarchico (2007), Sonderbehandlung (2008), Notturno stenopeico (Best Italian Short in 2009), Mammaliturchi! (Special Mention in 2010), and Natura morta in giallo (2012). Eco da luogo scolpito was selected at the Venice International Film Festival. He presented his first feature film I resti di Bisanzio (2014) at Pesaro Film Festival and at Doclisboa.

“The roots of this film lie in The Garden of Earthly Delights by Bosch and Mirabili visioni e consolazioni by Saint Angela of Foligno. Bosch sanctions the impossibility of one single, shared, and objective story, in favor of the observer-voyeur who creates his film with the tesserae at his disposal, the bodies scattered without any hierarchy or gender distinctions, spied upon like in the finale of Salò-Sade by Pasolini: the coitus, having been dismantled, has no planned outline but only shameless exposure. Angela da Foligno embeds the capitulations of her sanctity in ardent words: the compulsive reiteration of the act and the lust of the images – on paper or in the mind – transform the thoughts of bodies and words into fleshly form.”
