27° TORINO FILM FESTIVAL

NEW DENMARK

NEW DENMARK

Country: Canada
Year: 2009
Duration: 73\'

Ever since Maggie disappeared the summer has seemed endless to
Carla. Each day is just like the preceding one, her job, housework
and the constant search for her sister, which she does with a group of
friends and a stranger. Nothing seems to break up the monotony of
the summer, until Maggie’s body is found. But the proof of her sister’s
death doesn’t keep Carla from still hoping to find her alive one day.

“Not wanting to do this film the same way I did the previous two, I decided to put myself in danger and write a script based only on a title: New Denmark. Without an idea yet, I was wishing that a story would emerge from it. A girl, looking for something, all summer long. An older sister has disapeared. No adult in sight. Non-actors, a small camera, two weeks to shoot it. A month later I had this story, this idea, this dream. Two months later I had this film.”
