Country: URSS
Year: 1981
Duration: 91'

In 1941, in a Russian village where life goes on with the slow rhythm of country life, reports say that Hitler’s Germany attacked the USSR, and the Nazi army already crossed the borders. The boys of the village begin to wait for the day they’ll be called to go to war. While waiting, the rhythm of life almost doesn’t change: even if they’re preparing for their departure, the old ones talk about their past war experiences, the women deal with clothes and shoes that their husbands or children will be wearing. They know very little of the war that has just begun, but it is painfully heavy on people’s behavior, on the faces that rarely smile. The film doesn’t have a main character: the protagonists are the farmers of the village, the boys that meet and drink with the elderly, the women that make bread and the conscripts that quietly start to leave.
