On the day Janos and his four friends graduate from Engineering school, they have grand projects for the future; but once they haze had their vacations, the everyday nature of their work seems to belie their expectations. Janos has a love affair with a rather happygo-lucky dancer, and then with a likeable skater. However, he keeps on thinking of the face of Éva, a young law graduate whom he glanced at for a moment at their graduation ceremony. One day the two of them meet at a New Year's Eve party and they fall in love. When one of Janos's friends from the original group dics of leukemia, he is deeply bereaved. At the same time, Éva works at court and recognizes in a painful way that she is powerless in front of a world of misery. In a fatal way, their relationship falls prey to these pressures. Janos and Éva decide to see each other more rarely to test themselves. However, a last attempt at reconciliation ends in failure.
