A New Leash On Life

After witnessing a car accident while on his way to a job interview, Warren Wright finds himself in the company of a most unusual screening committee. First, he must deal with an uncooperative receptionist who undoubtedly leaves him in the hands of vicious army expatriate, Gordon Stern. Stern interrogates Mr. Wright with a series of questions. Warren is then passed onto Ms. Carby who asks him to identify what seems to be an unidentifiable painting. Finally, Warren is lead into a third room where he is asked to reflect on various images being shown to him in a slide show. After one final question dealing with the subjects of life and life choices, Warren blindly stumbles into the compilation of his responses, and realizes just what position this interview was screening him for in the first place.

"It was important to me in A New Leash on Life to present a situation that could be perceived on various levels. To me, the film is not so much about life and death as it is about fate and an individual's role in determining his own fate, usually without even knowing it. By working with the actor to create a central character who was easy to identify with, I wanted the audience to participate with him, so that they form their own responses and in the end are judged just as Warren is."
