A great director of photography tells his story. Dante Spinotti is famous in Cinecitt` as in Hollywood. He goes over the most meaningful steps in his professional life with the aid of images Liliana Cavani's The Berlin Affair, Ermanno Olmi's The Legend of the Holy Drinker, and Michael Mann's The Last of the Mohicans. However, all this is not a mere biographical run through. The video shows us how the choice of fighting in a film constitutes the last step in the controlling project that moves from the scenic space to the presence of the actors, to the directional relationships that the actors produce by means of their movements and looks, and, above all, to attention of the film viewer. It is he or she that plays the role of ultimate protagonist, even though absent during the production.

Alberto Colombo
Alberto Colombo (Turin, 1969) is a student at the Turin University School of Architecture. He has often collaborated with the gallery curator, Guido Carbone, in making "flash" documentaries on the work of various young Italian artists. In 1991 his video, Volti e musi su sfondo nero, was ranked second place, ex-aequo, in the Turin Space Section of the Turin Film Festival.
