Country: Italy
Year: 1993
Duration: 20'

The first quarter of an episodic long film on the theme of failure. In this case, the failure is economic. This is a theatrical spectacle on film, a "one-act play" as a short film. It is the rewriting of the myth of modernity, that of Robinson Crusoe and Friday. The stormy sea that pushes the man shipwrecked onto the beaches of the Island of Hope is what we all love, but, even more, fear: it is the infinite ocean of the economy, of money.

«Eccedanza has been freely inspired by a retelling of Defoe's Robinson Crusoe by novelist Michel Tournier (Vendredi ou les limbes du Pacifique, published in 1969) (…). The film is shot in 15 sequences and is intended to be an invitation to bring back dramaturgy to the small screen, in a period in which, as Annamaria Cascetta writes, 'big changes give material to the playwright and offer a chance - as in ancient Athens - to call the spectator to an intense, central experience in which theatre renews its vocation of joining together epochal times and myth'." Biography

film director

Claudio Papalia

Turinese director and ad-man Claudio Papalia (Alessandria, 1952) has had an absolutely eccentric career. His avantgarde works have won various video contests, such as that of Salsomaggiore. He directed a soft-core porno film under a pseudonym, but has reclaimed it as his own to the hilt. He has shot both Super8 and 35mm films in Turin and in America. He is an example of unconditionally radical cinema in which outrageousness glues together a creative and stimulating filmography.
