At the beginníng of the 1960's a union activist, João Pedro Texeira, was assassinated by hitmen hired by the landowners of the Northeast. His life is re-evoked in a film shot by Eduardo Coutinho and interrupted in 1964 because of the military coup d'état in Brazil. Seventeen years later Coutinho resumes work on his interrupted film. He interviews Texeira's widow and children. He juxtaposes the images that were shot in the past the contemporary situation of the country. Thus the film is a documentary on the history of Brazil during the years of the military dictatorship.
