"It was a great experience. There were three of us directors: Brynych, Solan and me. The idea came to us to try to do something, an artistic film. So we decided to write a universal dialogue that included all possible situations. We decided to give no specifications for the characters or for the unfolding of the action or for the setting where the actions were to take place. We did not even indicate if we were dealing with a man or a woman. Each of us made our own film on our own, but they all had the same dialogue. I had a pop singer, JeanPierre Leáud, as my main character. He sings in Vienna and is very successful with the girls who are trying to spend the night with him after the concert. But he is annoyed for some unknown reasons. Instead of spending the night with one or two or three girls, he Jumps into his car, drives at 150 kph, crosses the border between Austria and Czechoslovakia, and returns to Bratislava. He is a Slovak. His apartment is in Bratislava. His door is closed. So, he can't get in, but he hears voices. There are a boy and a girl on the inside. He is furious and knocks down the door. He thinks he is going to find his girl~ friend with another man. But he does not know the man and the woman who are there. The man gives some money to the woman. She is a prostitute. The man also gives some money to JeanPierre. And he understands that it was his girlfriend who leant their apartment out so that people could come and screw in their bed. He waits for his girlfriend to return. The apartment is a mess. There is a hole in the wall, the curtains are half burnt. The floor is strewn with dozens of bottles. Then his girlfriend returns. But first he phoned a store to have some food sent to him. And he gets the idea of hiring a prostitute, but he does not do it. In the meantime his girlfriend returns and sees all the things there are to eat which he had bought, some very expensive. His girlfriend has a sad, fatigued, and tragic air. She takes a box of caviar and starts to read what is written on the label. She reads the Danish, a language that nobody understands. In the meantime, the movie camera shows behind her a cross, from which is hanging a doll that has nothing on. It is nailed to the cross like Christ." (Jerzy Skolimowski, 1972)
