Trevor Garfield, a dedicated Brooklyn high-school science teacher, watched his school being transformed into a war zone. When he refused to pass one of his pupils, the student retaliated by stabbing Trevor in the back, leaving him on the verge of death. One year later, Trevor returns to teach in a Los Angeles school and finds himself in the same world of amorality and violence he had hoped to leave behind. Haunted by the memory of his own attack he begins to feel the need to make his students "responsible for their actions".
