In a peaceful, isolated house on an island, a lonely woman cares for her newborn child. Her daily life is described meticulously, and beyond the apparent serenity of her motherly gestures, her corporal solitude and perplexed gaze hint at a flaw in her existence. A flaw which can be repaired by Tatiana, a rather unkempt truck driver who asks permission to camp in a field. Although Tatiana's presence on her territory may appear an intrusion, the fascination she works on the young mother gives rise to feelings of complicity that are almost unnatural, the two women being so antithetical. What binds them is what the one symbolizes for the other: fascinated by Tatiana's animal and predatory attitude, the mother feels nostalgia for her liberty and independence; Tatiana, on the other hand, is jealous and hates the fulfilled womanhood she sees before her and which is crystallized in the coveted newborn child.

François Ozon
François Ozon was born in Paris in 1967. After graduating with a degree in cinema, he attended the prestigious FEMIS to study directing. Following numerous short films, Gouttes d'eau sur pierres brûlantes is his third full-length fiction movie.
