Juvanal resigns from his order, but he sticks with Catholicism, counseling alcoholics at a Catholic Center in Los Angeles. Once a Franciscan stationed in the jungles of Brazil, he has acquired the power to heal by touch. Juvenal's extraordinary healing powers, brings him unsought attention from a cavalcade of people who seek to exploit of him. Interested in Juvenal is August Murray, the founder of a Catholic group: he is determined to use the young man to foster a nationwide religious revival. He sees Juvenal as his publicity platform. There's also Bill Hill, a one time evangelist. Hill, who sees real financial potential in Juvenal's religious gifts, recruits former church employee Lynn Faulkner to infiltrate the Center in Los Angeles and pose as an alcoholic to get closer to Juvenal. Juvenal quickly sees through the ruse but is intrigued by Faulkner. And Lynn falls in love with him.

Paul Schrader

Paul Schrader (Grand Rapids, Michigan; 1946) is one of the most important American directors and screenwriters. His first screenplay was Yakuza (1975), directed by Sydney Pollack. He began his association with Martin Scorsese with the screenplay of Taxi Driver (1976) and Raging Bull (1980), to be followed by The Last Temptation of Christ (1988), and Bring Out the Dead (1999). Blue Collar (1978) marked his debut as a director. Forever Mine is his thirteenth feature film.
