Paul, a young man who is doing his compulsory military service, deserts and hides out in his parents' bungalow. While the army is searching for him, Paul's fiancÈe Kerstin leaves him and he is joined by his older brother Max, and Max's new Danish girlfriend, Lene. Max is worried about the consequences of Paul's actions, but Paul gets angry because he feels he is being treated like a child. Lene tries to make peace between the two brothers, but the situation only worsens. Paul is also very attracted to the girl, which makes Max jealous.
"To me, Bungalow is a road movie which never makes it to the road. The leading character has a bunch of reasons for going away, but he never manages to" (U. Köhler).
