The yakuza boss Anjo mysteriously disappears along with one hundred million yen, after spending the night with a prostitute. His best men, Kakihara, Kaneko and Takayama try to find him and discover that he was murdered by a killer called Ichi, who was hired by the rival boss Jijii. Kakihara, who is an expert in inflicting horrible torture, organizes the search, turning bars of ill repute and red-light district locales upside-down. A war soon breaks out between the different bands of yakuza and Kakihara stands out for his ferociousness. When Kakihara discovers who murdered Anjo, he prepares himself for the final confrontation.

Takashi Miike
Miike Takashi (Osaka, 1960) studied at the school of cinema founded by Imamura Shohei, with whom he worked as assistant director on the films Zegen (1987) and Kuroi ame (1989). During the early 1990's he directed numerous video productions. In 1995, he was hired to direct Shinjuku Triad Society, his first 35 mm film. Miike is one of the most prolific directors of Japanese cinema (he has directed over 50 films in 11 years) and soon became a cult director. He has specialized in genre cinema and is popular with producers because of the speed with which he films his movies and the extreme attention he pays to remaining within the budget. After Ichi the Killer, he has already directed ten other movies, on film or in video.
