The Italian Railways discontinues passenger service on the ferryboats that navigate between Sardinia and Civitavecchia. The sleeping quarters and restaurant personnel have been laid off and are about to make the last run.

"The discontinuation of the only public service of ferryboats for Sardinia happened amidst general indifference. Nobody cared about the drama of the personnel, it was a sort of consignment to silence. As a native of Sardinia, I felt that I, too, had been defrauded of something that belonged to me" (E. Pizianti).
