All the Real Girls

All the Real Girls

Country: USA
Year: 2002
Duration: 91'

In a small town in North Carolina, 22-year-old Paul, an unrepentant skirt-chaser with an active sexual life, falls in love with his best friend's younger sister, 18-year-old Noel. Paul has to prove that this time his feelings are sincere. In this romantic film, the director shows his particular cinematographic language as he delves into fertile emotional territory: the instinctive and ineffable moment of first-time-ever love.

"This film has no direct film influences. Even if on an emotional level it might be similar to films like
Splendor in the Grass and The Last Picture Show. Or even to the teenage movies of the 1980's like Say Anything with John Cusack. It's very difficult to talk about love between young people because it's such a fragile emotion. If we put in movie references or nostalgia it ruins everything. I also thought about literature, about two books in particular: One Hundred Years of Solitude and Huckleberry Finn. My realism might be less magical than that of Garcia Márquez, but I try to evoke the same sense of wonder" (from an interview of D. G. Green by Giulia D'Agnolo Vallan, "il manifesto").
