The world of Harvey Pekar: archivist, intellectual, collector, but above all
creator of the autobiographical comic strip American Splendor. For over
twenty years, these pages have marked the difficulties, casual experiences and
enthusiasms Pekar experiences every day in his hometown, Cleveland, Ohio.
American Splendor, which is a mixture of fiction, documentary and comics,
is based on the authentic saga of a normal man who has found love, family and a
creative voice through comics.
"To us, the Cleveland of Harvey's
comics was reminiscent of the naturalism of many great seventies films like
Fat City, The Deer Hunter and Midnight Cowboy. By working
with a tight, earth-toned palette, we felt we could capture the industrial,
rust-belt landscape of Harvey's universe" (S.S. Berman, R. Pulcini).
