The film interweaves the experiences of four women of Buenos
Aires who don't know each other and lead very different lives from one
another. During the unfolding of their day they confront problems and
disappointments of a very personal nature. But for each one the moment
arrives when they must put the day aside and escape into another world,
to put on their tango shoes and go to the "milonga" to dance, to fulfil
a desire, a need, even if it's only for the few minutes that a tango
lasts.
"The thing that startled me most while visiting Buenos Aires traditional
milongas, was to find always the same women. Every day of the week I
could recognize a group of stubborn women of all ages, beautiful or not,
some married or engaged, but always alone, secretly, watching, waiting.
What did they find there that could not be found elsewhere? I started
with some interviews, but I realized that I wasn't reaching the point,
that the whole thing was made of nuances, impossible to define, so I
changed direction and this little film was born." (E. Baratta)
