Canciones para despues de una Guerra
by Basilio Martin Patino, José Luis Garcia Sanchez
This film was made in 1970 but immediately banned by
Franco's censors; a ban which would last until the Caudillo's death. The
film mixes interpretations of popular Spanish songs (romantic, patriotic
and religious songs), filmed with an aesthetic concern bordering on the
kitsch, with frank and forthright images of everyday life under Franco's
dictatorship. The contrasts between the forced optimism and banality of
the songs and the harsh scenes of reality provide an astonishing overall
vision.
