Small episodes in time. A child decides to help his ailing grandfather by taking his place in his daily exercise of waiting for a mysterious man. An unexpected occurrence forces him to ask for help from a friend, in exchange for a thirst-quenching drink. The two youngsters start to wait. But the man never comes and the promise won't be kept. Like an early film by Hou Hsiao Hsien, the Chinese Director Bai Fujian illustrates the passing of time in the uncertain furrows of childhood.
