Mixing political reality and fiction, the American network HBO features the world of Washington lobbies, the pressure groups that revolve around the world of politics and that often use their clout to influence White House and Congressional decisions. The ten-episode series takes its name from the street on which the major American companies specializing in lobbying are located. The program follows the travails of James Carville, the Democratic consultant who was to a large degree responsible for Clinton's victory in the 1992 Presidential elections, and of Mary Matlin, an assistant to President Bush and a consultant to Vice President Cheney. These real people are flanked by co-stars Tommy Flannegan and Maggie Norris - played by John Slattery and Mary McCormack - and, in each episode, by famous political figures and fiction characters.

K STREET WEEK 1

"Every Monday morning, the creative group and the actors get into a room, discuss what happened over the weekend, read all the papers for the morning and decide on the spot what our show's going to be about. Our hope is that our method will make it possible to get to some politicians and get them talking before this cycle of news has gone around so many times that they've started to be more guarded about their feelings on a certain issue. We wanted to take advantage of the new technology to shoot in run-and-gun fashion, to incorporate as many real political figures as possible and create what we are calling 'real-time fiction': we like the fact that you can't always tell what's real and what's being staged. All you have to do is read the newspapers to know it's a really rich period to be making this show.'' (S. Soderbergh)
