A young Chinese man returns to his hometown after being fired in the big city. This marks the beginning of the silences, the wait, the suspension of not recognizing himself. His friends have changed. The girl he was in love with has married someone else. There's no work, only the far-away horizon of the gray, foggy beach. The growing tension is broken by the final race toward the void. Fujian continues his careful and painful searching. Bai His birthplace becomes a metaphor of a deeper uprooting. The Director's eye and the actor's body await the end by throwing themselves into the fog.
