Little Charly is terribly disappointed by his Christmas present. Instead of the bicycle, his father gives him the prototype of a plane. When the man disappears in a tragic accident, the model comes to life and spread magic powers. An extraordinary bond develops between Charly and the plane, and the child, determined to hang on the toy, is about to experience an incredible adventure, which will lead him to see his father one more time.

"I think films for children are as valid as films for adults. It turns out that films for children are very challenging to make. It took a lot of work to attain the illusion of simplicity and I was constantly working to keep things quick and clear. I was fearful that the subject matter would make the film too dark. I wanted to strike a balance between lightness and profundity. Children actually have fewer taboos about death than we do. They don't dwell on the drama. For them, the film is an adventure, while for adults it's more of a melodrama." (C. Kahn)
