During the fight for liberation, 860 people died in Piacenza, the city suffered brutal massacres and, through the Resistance, it was liberated. For this reason, in 1996 the President of the Republic at the time, Oscar Luigi Scalfaro, decorated Piacenza with the Gold Medal for Military Valor for the Resistance. The documentary studies the stages of the Liberation in the area around Piacenza through the voices of front line combatants and the music and words of the Partigiani songs. "The documentary came about through our desire to pay homage to those who bore witness to and participated in the Liberation. But even more, it is a story of men, 'never heroes, but always in the right.' It is the story of 8 partigiani from Piacenza whose individual tales speak for the feelings, ideals and hopes of Italian partigiani everywhere who fought for Freedom." (F. Barbieri, A. Canepari)
