Masters of Horror 2: Sounds Like

Country: USA
Year: 2006
Duration: 60'

Shocked by the death of his son for an undetected heart defect, Larry Pearce becomes insane; at the same time, his grief results in supernatural hearing. All of a sudden Larry can hear every insect, every worm, every blink of every eye. But as the man’s sanity leaks away, he tries in any way to commit to silence the maddening roar.

“Compared to some of other episodes of the series, mine it’s ambitious in a different way. It’s not effects-driven; it doesn’t work on a broad canvas. It’s much more about the small, character-driven motional moments, so there’s very little gore. There’s very little horror fare and there’s not a lot of special effects. No monsters; the monsters are inside. It’s very much a performance-driven piece. In that sense, that helps, because you’re not setting up giant special effects shots. On the other hand, you’ve got to get those performances, and that takes time.” (B. Anderson)
