25° TORINO FILM FESTIVAL

Impressioni di metà secolo

MIDDLE CENTURY IMPRESSIONS

Country: Italy
Year: 2007
Duration: 18'

An important moment in the life of a couple with money problems: she might be pregnant. The silence and fears for the future melt away when the two, who are now sure she’s pregnant, decide to keep the baby despite their economic situation. The film casts a look onto the last century, in which man lost himself and then found himself once again, held in thrall to money. But in this context, the birth of a child is still a revolutionary element, an event that breaks all logic imposed by a calculating society.

“The film is research carried out on the cinematographic language, an attempt to remove all that hinders a direct relationship with the spectator: the screenplay, the actors, the music, the movements of the camera… The music is put back in its place and isn’t used as a support to the images. The actors wander through the film like ghosts, holding back and hiding their true selves. The camera captures emotions by listening to the invisible chatter of objects, spaces, faces… Slowly, in search of what’s necessary and not of what’s beautiful.”
