After twenty years, a group of friends meets to talk about cinema, like they always do. They haven’t grown older; on they contrary, they seem to look younger. They all still live in a world of their own, they refuse to be in touch with reality and express themselves by dropping names and pearls of wisdom. However, beyond this austerity, the portraits of funny characters emerge, humane and authentic in their own way. “Twenty years ago I created a diptych entitled Les Cinéphiles - Le Retour de Jean and Les Cinéphiles 2 - Eric a disparu. Already back then I thought that love of cinema was a dead subject, a museum specimen, imagine now. Then why did I make a trilogy? Well, it’s none of your business. Let’s just say I did it. The film is entitles Cinéphiles 3 - Les Ruses de Frédéric and it’s half as long as the other ones. It’s lively, fresh, scathing. As they say, it’s contemporary. But then what is Le Retour des Cinéphiles? A sequel? A longer version? An afterward? It’s anything you want it to be: let’s say it’s a version that’s both slower and, especially, less austere. More sexual, even, if you wish.”

Louis Skorecki
between 1963 and 1965 made frequent trips to Hollywood, where he met several of filmmakers like Buster Keaton, Raoul Walsh, Fritz Lang, Douglas Sirk, Jean Renoir, George Cukor and Joseph Von Sternberg. The results of these interviews were published in “Présence du cinéma” and “Cahiers du cinéma” for whom he worked up until 1982. A year later, he joined the daily newspaper “Libération” where he contributed, in turn, to the film, music and television sections. He is now a film producer and has made over a dozen films including Les Pieds dans les nuages (1966), Eugénie de Franval (1974) and L’Escalier de la haine (1982). He has also published Les Violons ont toujours raison (2000), Raoul Walsh et moi (2001), Dialogue avec Daney (2007) and a novel, Il Entrerait dans la légende (2002).
