25° TORINO FILM FESTIVAL

The Tracey Fragments

The Tracey Fragments

Country: Canada
Year: 2007
Duration: 80'

Tracey is fifteen years old. Her life is unstable, to say the least. Her father calls his children “accidents” and her depressed mother spends all her time smoking in front of the television. Tortured by puberty and by other pupils, Tracy seeks refuge in a dream world and since her parents discovered that she has hypnotized her brother, she’s constrained to visit a shrink. She seems to live out of reality, but when Sonny disappears without a trace one day, Tracey puts all of this behind her in order to go out and look for him.

“The multi-frame concept for The Tracey Fragments first evolved as I was thinking of ways we could make use of a small amount of money and yet make the most interesting film. I thought of this device that Jeremy [the film editor, r.n.] and I had been using in the last couple of projects and thought it might really good for the film. It was the split-screen box thing – but rather than treat it as a transitional device as we had done before, we would make it the fabric of the whole movie.”
