A close-up of a girl who is deeply
moved as she listens to the aria
“Signore, ascolta!” during
Giacomo Puccini’s Turandot.

“Liu, crying, sings ‘Signore, ascolta!’
Liu can bear it no more. She sinks
to the ground, exhausted, and
sobbing. Opera makes tears of joy
and of sadness.”
