bakroman

In moré, the language spoken in Burkina Faso, the term “bakroman” means “street child.” There are over six hundred children living on the streets of Ouagadougou, the capital of the country, without anything to eat or a place to sleep. And yet, to defend their rights and nurture their hopes, they have united in a sort of union which seems to give strength to the possibility that, one day, they will leave this condition behind.

“The film is a voyage through the words that nurture the life of these children; it is a surprising instrument for their survival. Thanks to words, the bakroman fight, talk, discuss, grow, live. We tried to bear witness to their efforts and to their struggle, made of meetings, encounters, conversations, in which they discuss things and try to resolve their everyday problems. The boys and girls begin a long and difficult voyage to leave their street life behind: it is a battle made of kilometers they walk on foot, of dust, of violated bodies.”
