john carpenter’s the ward After being arrested, Kristen finds herself drugged, and held in a remote ward of a psychiatric hospital. She can not remember anything, all she knows is that she isn’t safe. The other patients—four equally disturbed young women—offer no answers. The air is heavy with secrets, and at night, when the hospital is dark and foreboding, she hears frightening sounds. It appears they are not alone. And when the other girls begin to disappear one-by-one, as Kristen struggles to escape, she will uncover a truth far more dangerous and horrifying than anyone could have imagined. “It’s a psychological thriller, in a way. It closely resembles a ghost story and a horror film. Kristen is taken to a mental institution and has no idea why she’s there, and the movie revolves around that question. We all question our sanity. Everyone has had an experience of loss of control of something. Fears are all psychological. Being afraid of death, loss of a loved one and disfigurement are all powered by your mind.”ì
Biography
film director
John Carpenter
(Carthage, New York, 1948) debuted in 1974 with the science fiction film Dark Star and next made three low budget films, Assault on Precint 13 (1976), Halloween (1978) and The Fog (1980), which made him one of the best-known directors of American New Horror. In 1981 he directed Escape from New York and the following year The Thing continuing his study of horror movies and science fiction. He confirms his status among the genre’s best with subsequent works such as Vampires (1987), In the Mouth of Madness (1994), and Ghosts of Mars (2001).
