poetry

Mija lives with her grandson in a small city in the provinces. She is a pleasant and kind woman, always carefully dressed in flowery dresses in bright colors and perky hats that give her a slightly eccentric air. Almost by chance she starts taking a poetry course and has to write a poem of her own. In search of inspiration she starts observing the things around her, paying more attention to her surroundings than usual. In the meantime, her grandson is involved in something that unexpectedly forces her to take stock of an aspect of reality which is anything but poetic.

“These are times when poetry is dying away. Some lament such loss and others claim, ‘Poetry deserves to die.’ Regardless, people continue to read and write poetry.

What does it mean then to be writing poetry when prospects of an ongoing future seem dismal? This is a question I want to pose to the public. But in fact, it is a question I pose to myself as a filmmaker: What does it mean to be making films at times when films are dying away?”
