the infidel Mahmud Nasir lives in London with his family. He is Muslim but sometimes doesn’t faithfully follow the precepts of the Islamic religion; nevertheless deep down he is very devote. As they prepare for the wedding of their son Rashid with the daughter of an imam, the Nasirs must show that they are true Muslims and Mahmud has to correct some of his slightly unorthodox attitudes. But everything seems lost when Nasir’s mother dies and the man is shocked to discover that he was adopted and, above all, that he is Jewish. “I originally became involved as a script editor and fell in love with the boldness of David’s story. The idea of using an identity-swap comedy to address one of the hottest topics of our time was something I couldn’t pass up. So, together with Omid, we created this kind of Muslim Homer Simpson: an everyman who happens to be a Muslim who happens to be a Jew. The Infidel’s full of synergies – of different identities, styles, and filmmaking approaches”.
