voodoo Pieces of airplane engines silently observe the life that goes on every day in the factory. The mechanical noises create the melody of a process which is ceaselessly repeated, while the people bring part of their existence into the sterile workplace, filling it without uproar. During a refresher course for flight assistants, a restless woman can’t help not laughing as she pretends to reanimate a lifeless dummy. In the meantime, a man tries to overcome the fears that oppress him. “All sympathetic magic is based upon two principles: the first called the law of similarity says that ‘likes produce likes’, or that an effect resembles its cause; the second, called the law of contagion or contact says that all things having been in contact with each other continue to react upon one and another at a distance even after they have been severed or disconnected. A fearful man meets a disquiet woman. Do you believe in magic?”

Sandro Aguilar
Sandro Aguilar (Portugal, 1974) studied cinema at the Escuela Superior de Teatro e Cinema. In 1998 he founded the production company O Som e a Fúria with Luis Urbano. In 1999 he participated to the Locarno Film Festival with his second short film, Estou Perto, receiving the Pardi di domani Award. Sem Movimento (2000) was selected by the Venice Film Festival, where it earned a special mention. He made Remains in 2002 and A Serpente in 2005, both of which were presented in Locarno. His debut feature film, A Zona (2008), was presented at the Torino Film Festival, as was his next project Mercúrio, which also participated to many other international film festivals, winning the highest honors at the Oberhausen Short Film Festival.
