Winter: on the big wall in his studio in Turin, Mario Surbone uses charcoal to sketch the outline of a new work and, in his mind, the forms he is drawing correspond to the elements of the surrounding landscape. In the spring and summer, his canvas reflects the countryside, where he continues to work on the painting and finally, and that will mark also the fall, the final panel to be completed. “I got the idea for the film at Mario Surbone’s exhibit Le mie colline and it stuck in my mind until, one summer evening, I suddenly understood the process of interiorizing and transfiguring which this artist uses to express his relationship with the landscape. To me, all his works are connected with art and Chinese philosophy, which uses the landscape to reveal the creative activity of the universe and the great metamorphoses of the forms of reality. So I constructed the film along the reflections of the painter philosopher Shitao, in an attempt to associate the life of a work of art with that of a hillside.”
