FESTA MOBILE: PAESAGGIO CON FIGURE

MIRAMEN

by Khristine Gillard, Marco Rebuttini
Country: Belgium
Year: 2011
Duration: 22'

Miramen, Provencal for mirage, indicates perfectly the visual quality of Camargue, a place where land and water meet and ask the humans that inhabit it to become one with these elements.

“For a long time I had been dreaming of depicting Carmargue, the way I feel it to be and the way it is inhabited. It is an uncertain, incomplete territory still in the making. […] We wanted to film this landscape like a place in which one can encounter a real space – the Camargue where people work – but also as something that goes beyond it, overcomes it, transcends it, an imagined space, the place that has a bond with the invisibility of nature, with myths. […] The question we asked ourselves was how to depict this encounter between what is inside – the bonds, the bodies, the relational gestures – and what is outside. How to make this landscape ‘touchable’ even if it is elusive, maintaining this sensation of inaccessibility, its invisible dimension, those moments of the imperceptibility of sounds and of the images that are brought and then taken away by the wind? […] Miramen is a moment underway, an intuition of a landscape. Perhaps, a mirage.” (Khristine Gillard)
