Evocations, stories, observations of the landscape are fragments that depict the meaning of the mountainous area between Colorado and New Mexico. From the battle between the Comanche chief Cuerno Verde and the Spanish colonizers to the murder of English colonists by the Espinosa brothers, who were inspired by the Virgin Mary at the onset of the war between Mexico and the United States. From an interview with an anarchist who has chosen the nomadic life of a hunter-gatherer to a study of the architectural counterculture as evidence of the new theories of living the countryside.

Sangre de Cristo is the result of research, travel and observation through highway towns, historical societies, present and former communes, roadside attractions, and most of all, the mountains themselves. I was also drawn to the way the built environment works to reveal so much about the builders. The landscape dominates the region and the film, which nevertheless tries to address the complexity of human stories by cycling through documentary styles and strategies, including performance and re-creation, in an attempt to grapple with the constructed nature of historical representation.”
