A father and his adolescent son go to Berlin to visit the boy’s mother, who is in a coma in a hospital. The father hasn’t seen her in years, the son has never met her before. They thus find themselves having to confront a murky past, an unknown city, the hostile environment of a hospital and the inhospitable apartment where the mother lived with a woman who is as charming as she is mysterious. Father and son go on a parallel journey, of self-discovery and of their own past. As the boys explores an unusual side of Berlin, the father waits for the mother to awaken from her coma. “In this film two people are confronted with a situation that is completely new for them. In a minimalistic setting (an apartment, a hospital) they are each forced to face intimate layers of themselves, past feelings, an unfamiliar body, their own body. In the course of the film, father and son embark on a parallel journey: the boy to his (past) connection to his mother’s body, the father to a past intimacy that he once had with the boy’s mother.”
