A man covered in blood rides in a packed subway car; the other passengers look on indifferently. This is the most famous sequence of the paranoid black comedy written by the humorist Jules Feiffer and directed by the actor Alan Arkin. The story of an apathetic photographer who has lost all touch with his feelings, firmly entrenched in a New York inhabited by lunatic gunmen, telephone maniacs, violent gangs, and a girl who wants to “save him.” Produced by the lead character Elliott Gould, with a cameo by Donald Sutherland.
