John Akomfrah
John Akomfrah (London, UK, 1957) is considered a key figure in black British cinema. He founded the Black Audio Film Collective in 1982. Four years later, he made his directorial debut with the documentary Handsworth Song, followed by Testament (1989), making himself known in the international film festival circuit, winning awards and earning recognitions. Throughout his career, he has made about thirty projects, ranging from shorts to feature films, from documentaries to TV productions. Aside from working as a director, he is also head of Smoking Dog Films and Creation Rebel Films.
