BELLA E PERDUTA

BELLA E PERDUTA
by Pietro Marcello
Country: Italy
Year: 2015
Duration: 87'

From the depths of Mount Vesuvius, Pulcinella is sent to present-day Campania to carry out the last wishes of the shepherd Tommaso: to save a young buffalo named Sarchiapone. In the Royal Palace of Carditello, an abandoned Bourbon residence in the heart of the “land of fires,” Pulcinella finds the young buffalo and takes it north with him. Man and animal take a long journey through a beautiful and lost Italy, and in the end they won’t find what they had hoped to find.

Declaration

film director

“When I came upon the Royal Palace of Carditello and the fairytale – because it is a fairytale – of Tommaso, the ‘angel of Carditello,’ the shepherd who with immense sacrifice dedicated many years of his life to taking care of an abandoned heritage site, I saw a powerful metaphor for what I felt I had to recount. After the sudden and premature death of Tommaso, Bella e perduta – which initially began as a ‘journey in Italy’ destined to touch other destinations – became a different film, combining fairytale and documentary, dream and reality.”
