13 VOLTE FUOCO SU MIO PADRE

13 ATTEMPTS TO SHOOT MY FATHER
by Francesco Ragazzi
Country: Italy
Year: 2018
Duration: 36'

After Franco survives a heart stroke, his son Francesco decides to make a movie about him. Intimate and absurd dialogues spring between shoots from Francesco’s ruthless approach as a director and Franco’s clumsy attempts as an actor. Filmed as the “making of” of a movie that was never finished, 13 attempts to shoot my father tells the story of a filmmaker-son and an actor-father attempting to overcome their incommunicability with the assistance of a camera.

Declaration

film director

“So far, I mostly made movies about social and political issues. They were topics that personally affected me, but always indirectly: I tried to make my experiences with migration and growing up abroad universal through the stories of Turkish people in France, or Italians who migrated from Brazil. With this movie, I dealt for the first time with a topic that touched me directly, in a visceral way. I hope I succeeded, with my father and with Albert Elings’s help: talking about it in a light way, trying to reflect the experience of those who found themselves in our same situation.”
