LA NOCHE DE LAS GAVIOTAS

NIGHT OF THE SEAGULLS
by Amando De Ossorio
Country: Spain
Year: 1975
Duration: 85'

Night of the Seagulls – the fourth and final in the Blind Dead series – starts in medieval times, when a young couple is attacked by the Knights Templar. The man is instantly killed, and the woman is carried away to the Templars’ castle, where she is sacrificed.
The story then continues in the 20th century. Doctor Henry Stein and his wife Joan are moving into a very primitive coastal town, where they are met with distrust and hatred from the locals. It does not take long before the doctor and his wife find out that the town harbors an ancient evil: every seven years, undead Templars ride from the sea for seven consecutive nights to demand the sacrifice of a young maiden. The doctor and his wife then try to save one of the maidens, Lucy, from her horrible fate, aided by the local village idiot, Teddy.

Biography

film director

Amando De Ossorio

Amando De Ossorio (A Coruña, Spain, 1918 - Madrid, Spain, 2001), after directing The Black Flag, a short film in 1956, spent the next few years doing documentaries and commercials. Afterwards a few westerns and comedies, in 1969 he moved into horror where he made his mark. In 1971, he came up with the concept of The Blind Dead, a cult of blind, undead templar knights who sucked human blood. The first film, Tombs of the Blind Dead, was successful so three more “Blind Dead” films followed in quick succession. Unfortunately his last horror film, The Sea Serpent (1984), was a disappointment to him due to the low budget special effects, and led him to retire from filmmaking in 1984, at the age of sixty-six.
