Turin. The upper bourgeoisie is shaken by a murder: architect Garrone is found dead, his skull smashed by a stone sculpture. The investigation is led by Commissioner Santamaria, a Roman transplanted to the Piedmontese capital, who navigates refined circles and class hypocrisies. Suspicion falls on Anna Carla and her friend Massimo. Amid false leads, irony, and seduction, the case is solved thanks to a misunderstood Turin proverb. From the most famous novel by the Turin writing duo Fruttero and Lucentini came a film of extraordinary success as well, written by Age and Scarpelli, directed by Comencini, and starring great actors such as Marcello Mastroianni, Jean-Louis Trintignant, and Jacqueline Bisset.
