QUASI GRAZIA

QUASI GRAZIA
by Peter Marcias
Country: France, Italy
Year: 2025
Duration: 80'

Three crucial moments mark the life of the renowned Sardinian writer Grazia Deledda: the unexpected arrival of her mother from Nuoro, the hours before winning the world’s most prestigious award, and the moments when a doctor looks into her eyes, searching for words that won’t hurt too much. In between lies the entire life of the only Italian woman to have won the Nobel Prize in Literature. By tracing that life with warmth, the film also explores the relationship between women and literature, as well as the contemporary female condition.

Declaration

film director

“Few female figures in the history of Sardinia can be seen as symbols of the struggle for emancipation and for equal rights between men and women like the writer Grazia Deledda, the first and still the only Italian woman to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature. A woman of international stature, but above all a true daughter of Barbagia, who – through determination and perseverance, fighting and prevailing against prejudice and obstruction, largely due to her being a ‘modern woman’ – succeeded in reaching the highest levels at a time when feminism and equal opportunity were concepts deemed abstruse, if not rejected outright, even within the so-called ‘enlightened’ circles of the intellectual elite.”
